I also have been misguided and looking in mushroom books for white/brown flowers. On my recent trip to Alaska I saw the northern groundcone which looks a lot like your squawroot.Monikahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10442975942250078450noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6047972160037024989.post-87964702985483419342010-06-26T18:07:31.866-04:002010-06-26T18:07:31.866-04:00I've been away for a while so belated congratu...I've been away for a while so belated congratulations on graduating AND teaching me something new. Your point about "-phyte" meaning "plant" is right on, and after further investigation, I'm going to disqualify that statement about vultures being saprophytes. I will correct the text within the post when I get a chance. I didn't know the term saphrophyte though I am always fascinated with our vultures, caracaras, and other birds that live off dead things (I wonder if a caracara is a saphrophyte since it also eats live lizards, snakes, etc. It's only a part-time scavenger.) I also wonder about the term since "-phyte" usually means plant. I too love words as well as nature--I'm so glad to have found your neat blog!Kay Baughmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18043467782584362763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6047972160037024989.post-32728164289539689802010-06-22T18:51:45.799-04:002010-06-22T18:51:45.799-04:00Karen - Awwww... thank you!Karen - Awwww... thank you!Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15791185232391134319noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6047972160037024989.post-4221697908253306572010-06-22T13:50:29.657-04:002010-06-22T13:50:29.657-04:00Excellent, excellent, excellent explanation!!!
