Finally, I was able to get a somewhat decent video of the flying squirrels pigging out at the bird feeder tonight! The lighting is not great, but you will certainly get the gist of how active they are. This is the first time I've seen more than 1 flying squirrel at a time in many weeks. I hope you enjoy this video of my little rodent friends getting their fill on this snowy January night.
Heather...you get me every time with those cute little critters! They look so sweet all huddled together pigging out in the feeder. It must be so much fun to watch them! Great video...thanks for posting.
Oh Heather!! This is so cute!! I have never seen Flying Squirrels. They are adorable. They must stay warmer in a group like that.. So, so cute!! Wonderful video!!
WONderful! They come to our nut feeder but they're always zooming about; I've never seen them sit and feed like that! And so hard to capture at night. Great video!
Kelly - Don't they just melt your heart? I think it's funny to watch them climbing all over each other.
Michele - I hope to catch more video of them at some point. They haven't been very active lately, at least not when I think to look outside for them, so this was quite a treat.
Ginny - It's good to hear from you - I need to get caught up with you. They really are cute. Yes, I would think that they would stay warmer huddled together like that.
Jain - Yes, they move FAST! In the warmer months they run and "fly" about a lot more, but I think right now they just want to eat and stay warm.
Monika - I agree! This is definitely one of the coolest mammal "discoveries" I have made in the past few years, finding these little critters visiting our feeders.
Hi Heather, I sure loved this video. Minnesota does have flying squirrels, but I've never seen one myself. Are you putting some special treat in the birdfeeder for them, or do they just clean up all the leftover birdseed every night?
Hi Ruthie - With all the critters you have visiting your feeders at night (well, I guess it's mostly deer, but still...) I wouldn't be surprised it there were some around you SOMEwhere. Nothing special in the feeder, just birdseed, I promise!
