Chipmunk fun

I put safflower seed out in one of my feeders so that the squirrels will leave at least one feeder alone - squirrels don't like safflower seed for some reason. The chipmunks, however, are quite fond of it, and are not shy about camping in the feeder until they can't fill their little cheek pouches any fuller.

Proof that chipmunks can't read.

Happy Meteorological Spring, everyone!

How cute. My yard in Massachusetts had lots of chipmunks. They were so funny. One used to wait on the doorstep for his handful of sunflower seeds every day. I eventually gave him his own dish. One time he was under the woodpile and I was sitting on the step. He kept running up to me, then back to the woodpile. Back and forth, back and forth. Finally, he ran up to me, touched my bare toe, and ran back. I could just hear him, "I did it!! I touched her!!" ~karen

What a cheeky fellow :) So fun!

I wanted to check Steve's blog @ Blue Jay Barrens but blogspot said it is deleted. I remember you've been reading it too. Do you have any info about what happened? Is Steve ok? Did he move to another blog or quit it at all?

Karen - Oh thank you for sharing your little chippy story! It made me laugh out loud. I can just picture it. It reminds me a little of a camping trip we were on one year when we were sitting at the picnic table eating and a chipmunk scurried up onto the seat, right across my lap, and on his way to who knows where. It happened so quickly I didn't have much time to process it, but it was really funny!

Kelly - I knew you'd get a kick out of him!

Caroline - Next time I'll try to get a picture of fuller cheeks!

Aluajala - Yes, cheeky is a good way to describe him.
As for Steve's blog, I don't know what happened. I was disappointed to find several months ago that it had been deleted. It looks like he has been helping with the Ohio Flora blog (http://ohioflora.blogspot.com/), but he hasn't been posting much there lately, either. Lots of folks miss him and the Blue Jay Barrens blog - I miss it, too!

So cute!! I love the way the sun highlights his fur in the first shot! Who won the staring contest?

Judy - I think Chippy won the contest, but only b/c Dave had other stuff to do! ;)
