Live from the Midwest Birding Symposium

Hi there, LIVE from the Midwest Birding Symposium in Lakeside, OH. So it turns out I was wrong about the availability of internet connectivity up here - this place has wi-fi to the gills! Anyway, I'm sitting in the South Auditorium on the Lakeside campus next to Sharon Stiteler (aka Birdchick), with Mike Bergin only (10,000 Birds, Nature Blog Network) feet away. They gave a talk yesterday about nature/bird blogging, where Mike apparently gave me a shout-out - but I, unfortunately, was not in attendance at his talk, so hopefully he didn't say anything BAD about me!! (Kelly, back me up here, okay?)

Anyway, this morning, I went to a bird banding demo at the Black Swamp Birding Observatory, where I saw many beautiful birds in the hand, and got quite a few life birds, as well! I don't have those photos downloaded yet, but here are some shots taken Thursday evening from the pier near our hotel.

Bird cruise... that I did not go on...

Gulls are all over the place, which you might imagine at a lakeside location.

Look up, and you are likely to find a gull perched on a post of some sort.

...I recognize that gull on the right.... :-)
Had a blast today. Glad we went out to Magee Marsh even if it did get a little dark a little quicker than we thought it would! (Nice gull photos!)

I enjoyed meeting you at the MBS, Heather, and tried not to tarnish your name.

Carol - Wish you could have made it, would have loved to have met you! I've got plenty of material to post from the weekend, so stay tuned!

Kelly - Those gulls... they all look alike! ;) I had fun at Magee, too, and I'm glad we had at least one good find (don't want to give anything away for the other folks!).

Ruthie - Yes, the weather was amazing - not a drop of rain the whole weekend, and perfect temps. You are correct about the Thompson children on that boat deck. They did a great job entertaining themselves over the course of the weekend!

Eileen - Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and commenting. There's many more birds to come, so I hope you'll stop by again!

Mike - It was good to meet you too, and especially good to meet someone from the NBN in person. I trust that you were kind to me during your blog presentation! ;)
