Last day of February, 32 degrees and snow on the ground.
The air is crisp and clean -
sound travels far.
The birds sing a song in Morse code.
Nuthatches, drumming woodpeckers, chipping titmice and chickadees -
they provide the dots,
While the plaintive "coo's" of the Mourning Doves simulate the dashes.
They heard my S.O.S message: "Tired of winter. Stop."
Their reply:
"Spring is coming. Stop.
Be patient. Stop.
Keep feeding us. Don't stop."

Kelly - Thanks. When I stood outside yesterday morning, filling the feeders, it was a like a preview for spring - the birds were really going at it (singing I mean)!

I heard a report that the Red-winged Blackbirds have been spotted in Massachusetts! Truly harbingers of spring in my neck of the woods, they will be a welcomed sight! ~karen

Karen - Thank you! I would LOVE to hear/see some Red-winged Blackbirds. I thought I heard one the other day, but I think my mind was just playing tricks on me.
