His and Hers

The woodpecker activity has greatly increased at our feeders over the last several weeks, from all 3 of our resident species -

Downy:

Hairy:

and Red-bellied:

I expect to see LOTS of baby woodpeckers this summer!

We have 2 suet cages that really didn't see much action over the winter, but I've been refilling them quite a bit through the month of March. Today I caught Mr. and Mrs. Downy Woodpecker dining side by side...

His...

and Hers.

Lovely pics of your 3 'Woody' visitors. Any type over here is rare in our garden.

...I love the photos. They are really nice. Woodpeckers are always among my favorites. I hope you do get a lot of babies so we can see photos of them!

In that first photo - looks like the Downy has himself pointed like an arrow - neat shot! Love all your woodpeckers!

Frank - I take my woodpeckers for granted, so I'm glad to share them with you!

Kelly - I hope we got lots of babies, too. It's so fun to watch them come to the suet feeders and beg mama and papa bird to feed them.

Shelley - Yes, I like the way the Downy lines up with that limb, too. Do you get lots of woodpeckers at the log cabin?

Wonderful photos that show the difference in size between the Downy and Hairy woodpecker bills. I love woodpeckers!
